Welcome

The Allegheny Plateau Audubon Society was founded in 1984 and began counting hawks in 1989. Since those early years, the Allegheny Front Hawk Watch has become the crown-jewel of the Allegheny Plateau Audubon. It is one of the premier hawk sites in the United States and boasts several records over the years. The Allegheny Front is famous for our Golden Eagles. As they migrate past our site, they give unbelievable views of these elusive raptors. In addition, the Allegheny Front also bands Saw-whet Owls, tags migrating Monarch butterflies, and started the first Junior Hawkwatcher Program. The Allegheny Plateau Audubon Society was a major contributor to reclaiming wetlands, one of the great success stories in Bedford.

As you explore our site, we welcome you to join our efforts to preserve the natural biodiversity of the Laurel Highlands and southern Allegheny mountains in Western Pennsylvania.
