Allegheny Front Hawk Watch

Junior Hawk Watching Program

For kids of all ages!

What is the Junior Hawk Watcher Program?

The Junior Hawkwatcher Program was developed at the Allegheny Front Hawk Watch to entice both parents and youngsters to learn key aspects of hawkwatching, including data acquisition, reading environmental conditions, and connecting their behaviors with the ecosystem. Completing the program earns an official certificate as a Junior Hawkwatcher, and a sticker or a patch allows for the display of this achievement.

While the Allegheny Front Hawk Watch is the first site to have The Junior Hawkwatcher Program, HMANA now supports supports several Junior Hawkwatching Programs throughout North America.

Printed copies of the Junior Hawk Watcher program are available at the Allegheny Front Hawk Watch. Just ack one of our counters for a copy!

School Groups

If you are considering bringing your classroom to the Allegheny Front Hawk Watch, we ask that you let us know in advance so we have enough copies and an educator on duty. The picture below shows when Mr. Kuhne brought the Bedford Middle School Students to Experience the Allegheny Front!

Wayne Sierer, one of our alternate counters and an award winning environmental education specialist, helped the students understand what we do here!
